CUH are proud to be a Kickstart employer – May to December 2021
Cambridge University Hospitals (CUH) have teamed up with Royal Papworth Hospital (RPH) and we are currently recruiting for several high-quality job placements as part of the Government’s Kickstart Scheme.
The UK Government created the Kickstart Scheme in 2020 to help young people into work, particularly in a time where employment may have been affected by the pandemic. This is a national scheme and provides job opportunities for those who are aged 16–24 years old, currently unemployed and claiming Universal Credit.
The aim of the scheme is for young people to gain paid work experience, receive employability skills training and improve future job prospects. You can find out more about the Kickstart Scheme on the Government website
All our job placements will be for 25 hours a week over a six-month period and paid at National Minimum Wage according to your age – With a minimum salary of £5.59 per hour for under 18s.
What will you gain from the Kickstart Scheme?
We have partnered with Cambridge Regional College (CRC) to offer employability skills training and further opportunities for short qualifications.
Between CUH/RPH and CRC all placements will include:
- A good quality placement in a real job role
- A personal training and development plan
- Ongoing feedback, pastoral support and mentoring
- Employability skills to help you gain confidence, develop your CV/application form skills and interview practice
- An opportunity to attend workshops or short courses to add to your work portfolio
- Support from both CUH and CRC to apply for vacancies at CUH and RPH and the wider healthcare system
- Information and insight to the broad range of careers and pathways available in the NHS and local health and social care employers

What roles are available?
We have a broad and exciting range of job opportunities available for the Kickstart Scheme. These are in a variety of departments within either patient facing or non-patient facing areas. Most roles are appropriate for entry level candidates, but responsibility and development can be adjusted for those with relevant prior experience and qualifications.
If you are interested in applying for one of these opportunities, please refer to the above ‘How to apply’ section.
Most roles are available at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus on Hills Road Cambridge, for CUH at Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie, and the Main Royal Papworth Hospital.
Some areas however are based offsite such as Payroll and the Cambridge IVF Clinic which are both based in Trumpington. Some shifts at the Eye Clinic, may be at Anglia Ruskin on East Road, or Saffron Walden (with other shifts at Addenbrooke’s main site). There also may be an option to work some admin shifts for the RPH Workforce team at their Huntingdon administration offices, subject to discussion.
Some roles involve some, or all hours, working from home/remote working. This will be made clear in the job advert. Support and equipment will be made available where necessary.
