Research & Development
The Cambridge Biomedical Campus is a world-leading centre for research and this brings exciting and varied opportunities for nurses. All nurses will come into contact with patients who are participating in or would like to be part of research studies and need to know how to support this. Nursing roles within research include research nursing, specialist nursing within research-active teams, as well as supporting nurses wanting to develop as researchers themselves. The CUH Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professionals (NMAHP) Research Strategy highlights how NMAHP research roles are being developed. The strategy is available here:
Research training and career development
There are over 200 research nurses working across the campus, employed in a variety of roles. If you are interested in a career as a nurse working in research the National Institute for Health Research website has useful information about this field of nursing.
Information about training, support and local research networks including the Cambridge Nurses in Research group are also available.
Professor Christi Deaton is the Florence Nightingale Foundation (FNF) Professor of Nursing Research and we have close links with the FNF which offers a number of scholarship schemes and leadership programmes for nurses.
Internal research fellowships funded by Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust and NIHR Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre are available for NMAHP who are considering applying for PhD or Post-Doctoral research awards in addition to support to apply for NIHR and HEE funded research career schemes. An annual NMAHP research conference is held and all staff are very welcome to attend.
