Work shadowing placements

Work Shadowing Placements for Sixth Form Students

Due to unprecedented number of applications received since September, we are now closed to receiving further applications for shadowing placements at CUH. We will open up again to receiving applications late Spring. Please accept our sincere apologies for this, we appreciate how important work shadowing placements are.

These work shadowing opportunities are open to students attending a college within the county of Cambridgeshire extending to students who attend colleges just over the border.  If you are unsure if this includes you, please email cuh.workexperience.addenbrookes@nhs.net for confirmation.

Colleges within our catchment area are notified of the programmes below and places are allocated via an application process through the Work Opportunities Team.  Attendance requires authorisation from your college either your Career’s Advisor or your Tutor.  Please contact your college careers advisor for an application form or see the electronic link below.

We request that students contact us directly regarding their work experience and not the parents. Please note we are still currently receiving a high volume of emails and it may take a while for us to respond.  Please note due to the backlog of applications from this last academic year, placements may not be until 2023.

Further information that you may find useful:

Medical Shadowing is specifically for sixth form students applying to study medicine / AHP / Science at University.  The placement aims to provide an insight into the working life of the Consultant or Junior Doctor in order to aid the student in completing their UCAS application for Medical School.  Students will shadow a Consultant / Clinician for 1-3 days depending on availability during which time they will observe patient consultations, ward rounds, clinic / department procedures, multidisciplinary team meetings and emergency care. Applications must be submitted at least two months prior to the placement request date as health clearance from our Occupational Health team will be required before the placement can take place.
